budgies

just when i think i'm done with the cute little bird phenomenon (which is everywhere, including my kitchen, living room, etc...), i see this.

i love the clothes from this website from japan. i spent most of the nineties in baggy, thrifted levis, so i find myself particularly drawn to these outfits.

i think i'm going to have to start trolling the thrift stores for baggy, worn, jeans again!

(this was basically my uniform for several years!)

these outfits are lovely, too. i love all the neutrals, the layers, the texture...and anything linen.

it's friday afternoon with only an hour left, and i'm so not wanting to be at work. besides the usual friday afternoon malaise, i know that i have two new craft books waiting at home for me!

the first is weekend sewing by heather ross. i was finally suckered into buying this after seeing all the buzz about it on blogland and flickr...that, and i can't resist a good craft/sewing book.

the second is linen, wool, cotton by akiko mano. i love japanese craft books, which is a pricey addiction, but haven't actually made anything, yet (not being able to read japanese is a little intimidating). this lovely is in english, so that should get me over my language hesitation.

i actually decided to get this book as soon as i saw this awesome bag (cuz i need another bag?!)

(i swiped a picture of the bag from this lovely blog, since i'm not able to post one of my own just yet)

a couple weeks back the new york times, in the midst of the grey gardens hoopla, ran some pictures of grey gardens before it was renevated (and after the edies had moved out). i have to say, more often than not, i'm drawn to the before pictures.

(love this one)

i love color...can't live without it. but my alter ego is often drawn to how clean and dreamy white can be...especially a combination of modern and european charm (the german movie, Mostly Martha, had the loveliest colors...)
so, i'm thinking i'll start checking out the thrift stores for various white dishes and replace the corningware (ugh) that my husband brought with him. this picture here was my first inspiration for new dishes!

pretty white dishes...(from hoping for happy accidents)
more pretty white dishes (from sfgirlbybay--she knows how to find the best rooms with white, including her own!)

also from sfgirlbybay (the home of blogger delaks). i love the barcelona chair in white.

and just for fun, a white faux (?) cupcake by smallstump.

i'm not generally enamoured by boxy concrete houses...but this, wow. for the views alone.

new year

i've been really really really into calendars at the end of this year. which is weird. i'm not one to use them to decorate, or even as a functional object. but this year...i can't help myself. i guess i'm excited to see what 2009 has to offer! =)

i bought this gorgeous letterpress calendar from ilee on etsy a couple of months ago and just now got giddy GIDDY at the thought that as of tomorrow, i can put it up. so excited (is that sad?) =) and it is even more lovely in person.

i'm also completely smitten with this one from etsy seller hellohandmadepaperie (it's on sale right now and i'm itchin' to buy it, but i might have it under the in-laws tree??? oh, the dilemma). the vintage hanger is just so creative.

i love vintage tea towel calendars, and this is a lovely take on sort of an old fashioned idea (by etsy seller cicadastudio, who also designs the most lovely fabric).

i love this letterpressed beauty for it's perfect simplicity (by etsy seller smeurer8)

the wild unknown has two series, both of which i'm completely smitten with.
feathers:

and
hawks & bunnies:

(hawks are my very favorite birds).

finally, the amazing etsy seller elloh has an "ode to the office" calendar (i highly recommend checking out this seller, her stuff is just so much fun)

happy new year!!!

namaste.
